Shawnee Mission School District Center for Academic Achievement

image description

The Shawnee Mission School District Center for Academic Achievement is a 131,000 SF facility that replaces a former middle school. It combines three administrative centers into a single location to create operational efficiencies including space for the Board of Education and their meetings. The facility will include collaborative spaces for signature programs such as Medical Health Sciences, Biotechnology and Culinary Arts, which will maintain and operate a sustainable urban farm. Environmentally friendly features include extensive natural lighting, a rain garden and an efficient HVAC system. BHC provided overall site civil design including grading, utilities and stormwater management.

This project won multiple awards: The Design Excellence KC Award from the AIA Kansas City, The Capstone Award from the Kansas City Business Journal and the Illumination Award from the Illumination Engineering Society of KC.
