Turkey Creek is well known for its propensity to produce devastating floods in the Kansas City Metro. The most recent surge caused more than $50 million in property damage to private residences, public space and local businesses. During an on-going mitigation project in Kansas City, KS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers informed the Unified Government of Wyandotte County they would not cover the cost of relocating a portion of subterranean drainage because the pipe did not have an easement. When local title companies were unable to locate the appropriate documentation, the Unified Government asked BHC to search their archives. Within 24 hours confirmed existence of a 1976 pipeline easement for the area in question was made saving taxpayers and the Unified Government more than $250,000.
