Occidental Management Shares Plans for Former Sprint Campus

(Overland Park, KS, Sept. 16, 2020) Wichita-based commercial real estate development firm Occidental Management submitted a preliminary development plan for the former Sprint Corp. headquarters on Wednesday, Sept. 16 to the City of Overland Park. Purchased in July 2019, the 200+-acre campus is entering the initial phase of development from a single-use location to a dynamic, mixed-use space for the businesses, employees and community of Overland Park.

“This first-look at development plans for the expansive campus is just the beginning,” said Gary Oborny, Occidental Management Chairman and CEO. “Our team has spent the past year researching and brainstorming the best approach to bringing an innovative, world-class live-work-play environment to the center of the country.”

The initial documents outline key components of the plan, including the use of the existing nearly 4 million square feet of Class A office space and an additional 2.7 million square feet of office, retail, restaurant and multi-family housing space throughout the mixed-use development.

In alignment with Overland Park’s live-work-play focus, the development plans reflect an inclusive, accessible and technologically driven approach that combines naturescapes and outdoor experiences with urban design and economic appeal that will add amenities to the city and further activate the talent recruitment and retention in Overland Park.

“The vision includes a place for all people — it will be a diamond in the Midwest that attracts innovative companies to migrate their headquarters to the region,” Oborny said. “But it will also serve as a community gathering space for people of all ages and interests.”

The approval process will continue throughout the remainder of 2020 and the community can anticipate a series of announcements leading into 2021, including a new name for the campus.

“Our mission is to add value to the community, and we look to create an immersive, energetic hub in the heart of the city that pulls businesses, people and culture together in a place where innovation thrives,” said Oborny.

Existing buildings are currently leasing and available for tour through Occidental Management. Leasing is already underway for the first new Class A building in 2021.
