In 2022, the City of De Soto, KS announced Panasonic Energy North American would open a 300-acre manufacturing facility at Astra Enterprise Park. The facility represents the largest economic development project in Kansas’ history. To support the rapid growth of De Soto, the fire district announced the construction of a 20,000 SF fire station. BHC provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, and survey services. The project required development approval and 1,000 FT of new roadway construction to access the new station. Site design and BMPs for the fire station were also completed, designed collaboratively with the civil team. Design considered safety elements including view angles and anti-ram components. Planting design highlighted the building facade, buffered neighboring uses, and established outdoor living environments for first responders.
