The east side of the City of Leawood’s North Bike Loop meanders through neighborhoods. The City desired to create a more direct route for cyclists to the Leawood Aquatic Center at 106th Street and Lee Boulevard. This mile-long project with an expedited schedule widened Lee Boulevard to accommodate two 4 FT bike lanes and two 11 FT driving lanes. A concrete ribbon curb was added to the roadway edges. A total of 70 driveway approach profiles were designed. This project also included mill & overlay, coordination with water for major upgrades, guardrail and storm sewer improvements and a retrofit of 40 streetlight LED luminaires with photometric plan. The City has direct awarded the next phase of design for the adjacent 1.5 miles of improvements.
