The ARE-ON Fiber Expansion project deployed middle-mile fiber infrastructure backbone with 380 route miles of underground fiber optic cable and fiber connections to expand the Arkansas Research & Education Optical Network (ARE-ON) to 20 community colleges for the purposes of research, education, telehealth and emergency preparedness. BHC provided civil engineering, site design and surveying for 17 fiber huts which included topographic surveying, boundary survey, property research and legal descriptions to support easements and dedications of license for the hut sites. Other engineering tasks included design for retaining walls, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering and electrical engineering for grounding.
