South of Spring Hill High School, the City needed 199th Street to function as a dependable east–west arterial moving daily traffic between Spring Hill and Hwy 169 while also supporting the region’s growing bike network. With the corridor identified in the MARC regional plan as a planned regional bike route, the project had to improve roadway condition and safety for all users. Funded through Johnson County CARS, this one-mile segment from Ridgeview Road to Renner Road upgrades the roadway to a curb-and-gutter section with paved shoulders that incorporate bicycle elements consistent with the 199th Street improvements west of Ridgeview. To keep options open for future capacity, the alignment shifts north to allow additional lanes on the south side and a median. The result is a stronger corridor today, and better connectivity for the region tomorrow.
