Affordable Family Storage has been in the self-storage business since opening their first facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 2014. BHC provided civil site design and program management for multiple locations in Kansas and Ohio. The project involved the design of standalone buildings and supporting infrastructure within the existing parking lots of established sites. BHC’s scope included topographic design surveys, conceptual site layouts, construction and landscape documents, stormwater management (with both underground and above-ground detention), stormwater quality measures, and traffic studies. Key challenges included site drainage constraints, coordination with the city, and integration with existing utilities. Through proactive planning and collaboration, BHC delivered solutions that balanced technical requirements with project goals.
