When the former Union Quarries underground limestone mine in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was reactivated to produce aggregate and open the door for future surface development, STAR Excavating needed a fast, accurate picture of conditions below grade. BHC delivered that clarity with 3D laser scanning inside the mine, capturing precise data beyond traditional line-of-sight methods while reducing time spent underground. BHC mapped more than 600 subterranean support columns, giving the project team the reliable information needed to plan work confidently and keep operations moving.
