As the City of Olathe looked ahead to 2040, leaders wanted the next trails and greenways plan to feel familiar, practical, and ready to use, not a reset. The objective for the 2040 Trails and Greenways Guiding Plan was to build on design and policy concepts from prior City plans, then turn those ideas into a clear framework for improving pedestrian mobility and supporting sustainable trail use across the community. By connecting public infrastructure with community and environmental goals, the plan helped preserve green space, strengthen neighborhood connections, and provide a foundation for future land-use decisions. BHC supported the effort with research on project pricing, repair approaches, and user preferences for trail materials, helping the City make informed choices that balance long-term maintenance, user experience, and budget realities.
