National Guard Training Campus Energy Project

National Guard Training Campus Energy Project

The Kansas National Guard completed an energy redevelopment project with various renewable and efficiency upgrades for their Salina base. The goal of the project was to advance statewide sustainability, with this project set as the pilot for future Kansas National Guard facility upgrades. The project scope was to retrofit the Nickell Barracks building on the National Guard Campus with a new canopy-mounted solar photovoltaic array in the parking lot adjacent to the building. This included installing a grade-mounted emergency generator. BHC provided site layout and minor grading design related to the canopy construction. The biggest challenge for the project was configuring the array efficiently to work with the existing parking lot layout, while minimizing the loss of existing parking stalls.
