South Lawrence Trafficway Inspection

South Lawrence Trafficway Inspection

This project removes, replaces and realigns US-40/K-10 highway, from US-59 highway to just south of Interstate 70. This project aims to create faster and safer travel around Lawrence, Kansas. This will change the highway dynamics from 2-lane head-to-head traffic to a 4-lane divided highway system with a grassed median. The realignment comes from 27th Street to Bob Billings Parkway, allowing for a safer curve at Clinton Parkway. With the project in close proximity to residential housing, noise walls will be installed strategically throughout the project to reduce the sounds of highway traffic.

Environmental impacts have been taken into consideration on this project, including nearby wetland areas, several creek impacts, and Wakarusa River impacts. With such a large footprint on the south and west sides of Lawrence, thousands of hours have been put in to make sure the impacts to these areas are at a minimum, without much interruption to wildlife.
